Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Calicut was established in 1992 under the Indian Institute of Spices Research at Peruvannamuzhi, 60 Km away from the district headquarters. During the initial stages, the Kendra functioned in a temporary building at the experimental farm of IISR. The farmers training cum administrative building and the farmers hostel were inaugurated on 7th December, 1998 by Padmabhushan Dr. R.S. Paroda, Secretary, Dare and Director General, ICAR. The Hostel can accommodate 20 farmers at time.
KVK is located about 60 Km North East of the headquarters at Peruvannamuzhi on the side of Perambra-Chempanoda road hardly 1 Km away from Peruvannamuzhi Dam. By boarding buses plying between Kozhikkode and Poozhithode, one can reach KVK. In addition, frequent bus services are availabe from perambra to peruvannamuzhi dam...........

Establishment of Nursery - a Success Story |
Sri. Jojo Raduplackal House, aged 30 years is a resident of the Chakkittappara Panchayat, which covers theNorth-East hilly tracts of the Calicut District in Kerala. His parents migrated long ago from the southern parts of Kerala to the Malabar region in hope of better living conditions. they had eleven children and owned 10 acres of land. Mr. Jojo is a school drop out and was working very hard in the field along with his parents to meet both the ends. In 1998, he happened to attend a training programme on nursery techniques at KVK, Peruvannamuzhi which was the turning point in his life. The training motivated him to start plant nursery at his farm.
With the whole hearted support of KVK, he established his nursery christened ' Alby Nursery ' which presently became a popular and trusted name among the farmers of the region and farmers of the nearby State of Karnataka for procuring high quality planting materials.
